Intervention commissioned by Industrieel Straat Museum in Vilvoorde
Permanent installation at Broekplein in the Buda area, Vilvoorde, Belgium.
The interpretation table guides passers-by through the observation of site where a former industrial machine - the Thermobloc - has been erected as a monument. The texts and images evoke the landscape and lead the viewer to put the site's metamorphosis into perspective. It is an invitation to look around in a seemingly ordinary area.
A trompe-l’oeil photograph - depicting the nymph of an insect species that populates the surroundings, drying its wings on the warm machine - is paste on the other side of the Thermobloc.
This proposition emerged from a research on the industrial zone along the Brussels-Antwerp Canal in Vilvoorde, while redevelopment work was -still is- underway, traces of the old working-class district are gradually being replaced by modern features, the materials have changed and so have the site's inhabitants.
